Tucker lost at sea

The eldest daughter and elest child of Ambrose and Sarah Pullin, Sarah Ann Pullin, married William Henry Tucker in 1858.

William Pullin, the 2nd eldest son and 3rd child of Ambrose and Sarah Pullin, married Selina Eliza Tucker in 1875.

William and Selina were brother and sister, with William the eldest and Selina the youngest child of William and Susannah Tucker.

William and Susannah migrated from Devonshire to Van Diemans Land in the mid-late 1830's with 4 children - Selina (b 1843) and her brother Thomas Cornelius (b 1837)were the only children to this couple born in Australia.

Thomas (now a brother in law due to the marriage of his brother and sister into the same Pullin family) grew up to be a sea captain, and in 1871 was recorded as a Master Mariner.

He married Janet Meiklejohn (b 1851) in Collingwood, Melbourne, in 1870 between then and 1881 had 5 children in various parts of the country, including Melbourne, Tasmania and NSW. In 1881 the family moved to Pyrmont NSW.

He was appointed captain of the steam ship S.S. Richmond.

Death: 21 OCT 1881 aged 43.
Drowned At Sea - Australia - Washed Overboard from Deck of the S. S. Richmond

The S.S. Richmond steamer, 155 tons sailed from Melbourne, arrived Saturday in charge of Mr. Romeril, Chief Petty Officer. The ship experienced the full force of the southerly gale on Friday night, and shipped some heavy seas, one of which washed Captain Tucker overboard. The port lifeboat was also lost, owing to heavy seas. Nothing could be some to save the Captain's life.
