John HOLLIGAN was born 1815 in Carlow, County Carlow, Ireland;
He died on 03 Nov 1854 in Geelong. He was the son of Patrick HOLLIGAN and Joanne McLEAN. His brother Michael HOLLIGAN, born in County Carlow Ireland also travelled to Australia with his wife and children as assisted immigrants. This HOLLIGAN family established itself in the Horsham VIC area. Michael and his family arrived in August 1854 (3 months prior to John's death) and, since they had been seperated for more than 10 years, I hope they met again at least 1 last time. John married Esther CARROLL in Nov 1843 in County Cork, Ireland. Esther was born about 1819 in Carlow, County Carlow, Ireland; She died in 1896 in Geelong aged 77. She was the daughter of John CARROLL and her mothers details are unknown. John and Esther HOLLIGAN arrived together in April 1844 on the ship 'Sea Queen' as assisted immigrants. The Sea Queen was a barque that travelled between London and Port Phillip. From the Sea Queen passenger Bounty List HALLIGAN, John, 26, Carlow, Roman Catholic, could read and write, calling is recorded as a labourer. HALLIGAN, Esther, 24, Carlow, Roman Catholic, read only, calling is recorded as wife. From the 1851 Port Phillip Directory (Geelong District), John was employed as a laborer and lived in Moorabool Street, Geelong. From John's death certificate details, on 3 November 1854 John died during a leg amputation. He resided in McKillop Street Geelong and was 11 years in the colony. John and Esthers marriage produced the following children. Anne HOLLIGAN, born 1844 in Melbourne. Mary HOLLIGAN, born 1847 in Geelong. Michael HOLLIGAN, born 1849 in Geelong and died 1908 in Geelong. He married Mary Catherine McGARITY in Geelong in 1873. She died 1906 in Geelong. Johanna HOLLIGAN, born 1850 in Geelong and died 1855 aged 5. John HOLLIGAN, born 1852 in Geelong and died 1863 in Geelong aged 11. Elizabeth HOLLIGAN, born 11 Dec 1854 in Geelong. Ellen Agnes HOLLIGAN born 1845.
