Thomas Drew, aged 36, Haulier born Rangeworthy Elizabeth Drew, age 31 born Iron Acton George Drew age 12 born Rangeworthy Hannah Drew age 9 born Rangeworthy Mary Drew age 6 born Rangeworthy Thomas Drew age 1 born Rangeworthy Allis (sic) Wall age 67 born Yate Later that year the family migrated on the ship Hooghly, arriving in the colony in November 1851. Thomas Drew (36), wife Elizabeth (31), children George (13), Hannah (10), Mary (7) and Thomas (1). The family settled around the Gisborne area. Victoria Police gazettes number 39 - 22 Sept 1854 - and 40 - 29 Sept 1854. Murder near Baccus Marsh. Thomas Drew and a travelling companion Joseph Bevis were attacked by 3 men 2 miles from Baccus Marsh on the evening of 23 August 1854. They were both struck on the head with a sharp instrument and remained senseless until the following morning. They were robbed of 28 shilling, 2 neckerchiefs and a knife. Drew died several weeks later on 13 Sept 1854 of the wounds sustained in this attack. Descriptions of the 3 men were provided to police. A Coroners inquest was held on 13 September 1854 at Bulleen and a verdict of wilful murder was returned. On 23 September 1854, the Acting Chief Commissioner of Police C.MacMahon offered a 300 pound reward for their apprehension and conviction. No persons were ever charged.
