Welcome

Welcome to the Geelong Croquet Association. We consist of a group of 6 clubs all based within 80 km of Geelong. The clubs are Belmont and Eastern Park (within Geelong itself), Drysdale and Queenscliff (on the Bellarine Peninsular) and Colac and St Andrews (in Colac). Both Association and Golf Croquet are keenly played with a number of social games played between the clubs on a weekly basis. Visitors are most welcome at any of the clubs or at any of the social matches.

Belmont

The Belmont Club is located on Francis St, Belmont (Melways map 465 J2)

Colac

The Colac Mallet Sports Club is located at Church St, Colac (RACV Vicroads 263 P3)

Drysdale

The Drysdale Club is located on Clifton Springs Rd, Drysdale, just a short distance from the Geelong-Portarlington/Murradoc Rd roundabout. (Melways map 456 K9/K10)

Eastern Park

The Eastern Park Club is located on Garden St, near the Geelong High School (Melways map 402 N6/P6)

Queenscliff

The Queenscliff Croquet Club is part of The Bowling, Tennis and Croquet Club complex on the corner of Hesse and King Sts in Queenscliff (Melways map 500 J1, enlarged 499 E11.)

Latest News

Closing Day

Closing day was held at Belmont on Saturday June 6 with the president Ruth Crabbe presiding for the last time. There was a large attendance for such a cold day with participants enjoying games of association, golf and ricochet. Stephen impressed all with his one handed (left) demonstration of prowess.

New Executive of the GCA

The GCA Annual general meeting was held on Friday June 19 at the Belmont club. Verna McLennan and Laurene Richmond were elected president and secretary respectively. Congratulations to you both. Thank to Ruth Crabbe for the excellent job she has done as preseident for the last 2 years.

Association Croquet

Social Days

Social croquet is played on a Thursday from August to May with each of the Bellarine and Geelong clubs taking a turn. If you would like a game just turn up at about 9.00 AM for a 9.30 AM start and bring your lunch. Each club has a special event (known as a Doubles Day) in which you need to register your interest with the club before the day of play. The club Doubles Days are listed in the Fixtures Section.

Golf Croquet

Social Days

Golf croquet is played at a number of clubs in the region. It is an excellent game for those wishing to try croquet as after a short 5 minute lesson you are able to get on to the court and try it yourself. For those not interested in serious competition it is a great social game as all players are on the court at the same time but you will also find that a lot of tactics and skill are required. Games last for about 30 minutes so it is usual to play a number of games in a half day session.

Aussie Croquet

Aussie Croquet at Drysdale CC

Aussie Croquet is a simplified form of croquet that was originally developed as an introductory game for use in schools. It is easy to learn, and great for practising basic tactics, but also offers challenges to the more experienced player. We play Aussie Croquet on Wednesday mornings.

The 2008/09 Aussie Shield was won by Margaret Britt with Norma Brown a very close second.
