Friends of Westgate Park
The Friends of Westgate Park have been revegetation the area known as Westgate park under the Westgate Bridge since 1998. With over 200,000 locally indigenous plants planted in that time, the Friends have created a small yet significant ecosystem in what was once a degraded site. Westgate Park is only a few kilometres from the CBD in Melbourne, yet the park has become home to over 120 species of birds and other wildlife such as skinks, 4 species of frogs, long necked turtles and tiger snakes.
The Friends of Westgate Park work in the park every Monday and Tuesday, and every third Sunday of the month. We welcome involvement form individuals and groups who wish to take part or helping recreate a biodiverse ecosystem just a few kilometres from the CBD.
