A BRIEF BACKGROUND TO FOSMSouth Morang in the City of Whittlesea, is on the rural NNE fringe of Melbourne but has a growing urban residential population estimated to rise to approximately 25,000 by 2016. FOSM Inc. was formed in December 2001 at a public meeting of concerned residents who met to discuss the proposed development of a skate facility in the Riverside Reserve at South Morang. It was originally incorporated as the FRIENDS OF RIVERSIDE ACTION GROUP in May 2002 and worked with local residents, community groups, the Pro-Active Programs Unit of Victoria Police and the City of Whittlesea to finalise the development of the Riverside Reserve which was completed in April/May 2003. In mid 2003, the Association changed it's name to the FRIENDS OF SOUTH MORANG Inc. and became a not-for-profit community group to serve the needs of residents of the City of Whittlesea. Membership is open to residents of the City of Whittlesea of any age or people from other municipalities who share the objectives of the Association for a once off joining fee of $8.00 ($3.00 entrance fee + $5.00 for 12 month membership) and an annual renewal each year afterwards of $5.00.
