Common Name: Prickly Couch
Size: Stem to 25cm, spreading. Habitat: Saltmarshes, primary dune scrub. Form: Low rhizomatus mat-forming perennial grass. Foliage: Leaves small to 5mm long, more than 2mm wide with many smooth veins, ending in long pungent points. Flowers: Terminal narrow spike-like raceme of small purplish flowered spikelets to 5mm long. The Zoysia macrantha found at Perce White Reserve is the only record of its occurrence between Cape Otway and Westernport Bay. It is regionally significant. Sources: Burbidge, N.
