The 'Friends of Kings Billabong Wildlife Reserve' was formed in 1999 by a dynamic group of community volunteers who have an interest in the environment, in particular the Kings Billabong area. The 'Friends' work in partnership with Parks Victoria to promote the environmental, recreational, historical, and cultural aspects of Kings Billabong.
Kings Billabong is a significant wetland and wildlife environment situated approx. 8 km. from Mildura, a popular tourist destination in N.W. Victoria. It is home to a diverse range of bird, wildlife and flora species, some of which are considered threatened in Victoria, and offers a variety of recreational opportunities including bushwalking, cycling, photography, canoeing, landscape painting, nature observation and relaxation to the growing number of visitors. Kings Billabong is considered the most important conservation area in Sunraysia. It was declared a Wildlife Reserve in the late 1990's and also satisfies an 'open space' need for the local community. Meetings are held monthly and activity days bi-monthly. These alternate between working bees and recreational activities.
