FRIENDS OF KINGS BILLABONG WILDLIFE RESERVE
The 'Friends of Kings Billabong Wildlife Reserve' was formed in 1999 by a dynamic group of community volunteers who have an interest in the environment, in particular the Kings Billabong area. The 'Friends' work in partnership with Parks Victoria to promote the environmental, recreational, historical, and cultural aspects of Kings Billabong.
Kings Billabong is a significant wetland and wildlife environment situated approx. 8 km. from Mildura, a popular tourist destination in N.W. Victoria. It is home to a diverse range of fauna and flora species (many considered threatened in Victoria), and offers a range of leisure/recreational opportunities including bushwalking, cycling, photography, canoeing, landscape painting, nature observation and relaxation to the growing number of visitors.
Kings Billabong is listed as a 'high value' wetland in the 3rd Directory of Important Wetlands in Australia & considered the most important conservation area in Sunraysia. It was declared a Wildlife Reserve in the late 1990's, and also satisfies an 'open space' need for the local community. Meetings are held bi-monthly and activity days monthly. These alternate between working bees and recreational activities.
