What is the Australian Finnsheep Breeders Association?
The Association was established in 1993 as a non-profit organisation, primarily to represent the interests of breeders of purebred Finnsheep. At the request of members the Association also runs a Finn Leicester appendix, for those members who are stabilising a cross between the Finn and the Border Leicester, and records details of Finn/East Friesian crosses.
While its focus is primarily on maintaining records of registered sheep the Association also promotes the breed and encourages, promotes, and carries out research into animal husbandry and genetics of relevance to the role of both the purebred and crossbred Finnsheep in the Australian sheep flock. Anyone with an interest in Finns is welcome to join as an associate member, while full membership is open only to registered stud breeders.
Both the Annual General Meeting, which is held in June/July, and Council meetings are open to all members.
The Association encourages all members to participate in field days and meetings and welcomes suggestions on how to best promote the Finn to the Australian sheep farmer, butcher, and consumer.
If you are interested in joining please feel free to contact any of the Council members.
