The building, owned by East Gippsland Shire Council, is maintained by members of the East Gippsland Historical Society Incorporated. The building was restored to its present condition for the use as a Museum and Resource Centre, and has been open for inspection by the public since 1972.
The main aims and objectives of the E.G.H.S. Inc. are the preservation of the unique history of Bairnsdale and the surrounding areas. The items on display, and the contents of the research archives, are preserved for the use and enjoyment of the community. The museum offers great views from the verandahs out across the Morass.
Delvine Hall alongside is available for group use.
