Image Historical Museum & Regional Resource Centre
The building was erected in 1891 and became one of the first secondary schools in Bairnsdale. It is now owned by the East Gippsland Shire Council and is maintained by the East Gippsland Historical Society. The building was restored to its present condition for use as a Museum and and Resource Centre and has been open for inspection by the public since 1972. The items on display and the contents of the research archives are preserved for the enjoyment of the community. The Museum is situated in a garden setting with extensive panoramic views from the verandahs across the Macleod Morass wetlands. The main aims and objectives of the Society are the preservation of the unique history of Bairnsdale and the surrounding areas.
Machinery sheds
The Historical Museum has seven main rooms which showcase furniture, furnishings, and artifacts from the days of our parents and grandparents. Surrounding grounds are filled with farm machinery, tools and a cabin that takes you back in time.
