East Gippsland Historical Society
Local history, resource centre and museum located in Bairnsdale Victoria. The museum houses many fascinating artefacts, furnishings and memorabilia while the surrounding grounds contain machinery and impements from a bygone era. The items on display are of local area history signigficance and reflect the lifestyle and industrial development of East Gippsland in the early days. The resource centre has an extensive collection of research material, photographs, postcards, newspapers, local publications, family histories, maps and advertisements etc. Research enquiries are welcome for family relatives, places, events etc.

There are over 100 members of the society at present, who enjoy the use of the research facilities and being kept in touch through newsletters and about other items of interest.

The Society is totally operated by volunteers, funded from membership fees, fundraising activities and grants. There are a number of vacancies for new volunteers in a variety of areas such as visitor reception, cataloguing, display, data entry, machinery and artifact restoration, history research etc. If this sounds interesting and you live in the Bairnsdale area, why not call in for a chat?
