1. Subsidise the greater use of rainwater so that less water is being drawn from the catchment.

Put rainwater tanks on all public buildings. By promotion of water savings and applying for funding from Commonwealth and State Governments from their Community Water Grants initiatives.

3. Stormwater reuse for the ovals and recreation reserves. (Currently Design work taking place.)

4. Stormwater outfalls to create wetlands at the back of the old swimming pool and off Aitken Av.

5. Better stormwater traps to stop undesirable waste getting into the river.

6. Control known points of pollution to the river and manage them appropriately.

ID nutrients from the study that has been done and from EPA info.

7. ID state of sewerage pipes (concrete pipes tend to erode).

Address the sewerage management problems at the sewerage plant. Re-use water to decrease the amount of water in pipes.

Start investigation into options and discussions with authorities immediately.

Complete a strategy 2006

Sewerage pipes throughout Donald and the Treatment Plant itself.

Consult with the body in charge of the sewerage transfer and treatment in Donald. ID possible actions to be made to improve sewerage management and implement. Source funding or resources for this if required. EPA could be used to in force.

8. Get the school to study rubbish along the river and have a competition to get suggestions on how to address it.

9. Posts and plastic bags for dog poo along the walking tracks.

10. Encourage major events to become Waste Wise events.

12. Water Smart Gardens

15. Decide on the best management action for the weirs. Once have identified the best action and have consensus from the NEIP Group on the actions, put this in the NEIP to be achieved.

Options include:

Low flow weirs put in place instead of barriers to keep the flow going down the river (lower the current weirs)?

NEIP Group and Landcare Group in consultation with river scientists and North Central CMA and GWMWater.

Address this issue along the entire river contained within the NEIP neighbourhood.

Use the science on what the correct flow for the river is regarding. Using the study regarding the hydrology of the river regarding removing the current weirs. As well as the Final Environmental Flow Recommendations for the Avon-Richardson.

NEIP Group discuss what options are possible with the CMA and GWMWater and other authorities as appropriate.

Make a decision on the options for the weirs and publish the decision and reasons why.

16. Fence the river and continue with buffer strip goals for the whole river
