On the 5th August, the Girl Guides from the Central West will join together for the Annual Cheque Presentation to the Western Plains Mallee Fowls and the Region’s Guides Own conducted by Wellington Guides.
After 19 years of supporting the Western Plains Zoo Conservation and Breeding Program of the Mallee Fowl, the Orana Region Girl Guides have been awarded the ‘Olave Baden Powell Memorial Shield for Continual Community Service’. This award will be presented by the Guides NSW State Program Adviser, Mrs Robyn Lovie, who has flown in from Sydney to meet the Girl Guides. Also to show their appreciation to the Girl Guides for their fundraising efforts, the Zoo will present 3 large mounted posters of the Life of the Mallee Fowl. These will be mounted in the Dubbo Guide Hall for all visitors to view. Plus the Zoo will be erecting a supporters plaque near the Mallee Fowl Aviary in appreciation of the Girl Guides.
