This project allows any user to walk down Collins Street, Melbourne as it appeared in 1864. Based on hundreds of contemporary images, and many thousands of hours of extensive research, 1864 is an architecturally and historically accurate reconstruction of Collins Street. Through the use of first person gaming techniques, the viewer becomes so completely immersed in the environment, it is as though they have stepped back in time.
