Visitors to Wallinduc can extend their stay in the area ,as it is a ideal base for daily self drive tours to coastal and country centres, some of which have excellent wineries and scenic views.

There are limited self catering or B&B accommodation available at some of the local
farms and towns in the district,these are often country style and very cosy and quiet for a relaxing short break.

Sometimes I take long walks around our farm, to get away from the cramped confines of our small house. If I just stop and lay down in the grass and close my eyes, I can almost fall asleep. Soaking up the soothing warmth of the sun, I only hear crickets chirping, the sound of far-off cattle bellowing and slightly closer sheep splashing across the creek. The only other sound is the occasional rumble of a tractor or 4-wheeler on the next property. Wallinduc is a very quiet place.

At the start of summer, the sickly sweet smell of flowering Canola, that reminds me of dead rotting sheep, thickens the air, clogging the airways of those unlucky enough to find themselves downwind. Thankfully, we are soon saved by the harvest that ends the horrid smell. By that time of year, it's time for the annual Wallinduc Christmas party. All who can be talked, bribed, bullied or nagged into coming, congregate in the small back room of the fire-shed.

An argument erupts over who is capable of lighting the barbie, but before long chops, sausages ,chicken wings and prawns are sizzling away, and we all relax and gossip about recent scandals and events in our district. The noise and laughter fills our little district, and Wallinduc is quiet no more....continued next page
