The new Sailing Season 2007/2008
The new sailing season is approaching. It is time to take the Hobie out, brush off the cobwebs and check all your gear. Should you need to contact them for advice, the Sailing Committee consists of: Ron McDonald (0419 296 464), John O’Connor (0408 305 617), Jack Droomer (0414 561 385) and Phillip Kidd (0419 544 105).

Training Yachts
The club now has four yachts dedicated for training purposes and “Try Sailing Days”. Up to three yachts will be available to hire for the season so an aspiring young yachtsmen may gain valuable experience before considering a purchase for themselves. Training will be made available from experienced members. Current members will have first call in front of the general public. Interested member should email the Secretary as soon as possible on farm.link@bigpond.com to receive details and conditions of hiring one of these watercraft.

Pre-season Dinner
The Pre-season dinner is destined to be a good one. An interesting speaker on the Antarctic. Check your Invitation enclosed for details and intention to attend form. Don’t leave it too late!

Grants and Funding
The AMYC has applied for two grants under the 2007/08 Boating Safety and Facilities Program for new and updated boat-to-shore communication system which gives the club greater versatility and reach in the event of an offshore emergency. The second application is for an EPIRB which is required for vessels travelling more than 2 nautical miles offshore, which is quite a possibility in a rescue operation.

The AMYC Committee made an application for funds recently to Alcoa Australia that requires USA approval. We won’t know about its success for a couple of months yet.

New shutters
A new and bright set of electrically driven shutters has been installed on the front of the Clubrooms that can bee seen well out to sea. No more physically winding or snapping cables. The old shutters were sold over EBay by Jim Tutt. Thanks Jim.

Anglesea vs. Essendon on the Anglesea River
We regret to announce that the September bream challenge went to Essendon by 3cm. Four fish were weighed-in. Essendon came home with a 350mm bream at 750gram and Paul Jacklin had next best at 320mm. The Anglesea anglers will have their chance again next September

Golf Day 5th October
The Golf Day will be a “cracker” this year, it isn’t far off – there are discounted green fees and a great range of prizes. If you haven’t entered or filled in a form, simply call Michael Wilson on 03 9419 8957 or 0407 320 995 then turn up at 10:00 am registration for a “shotgun” start at 11:00 am.

The Flag Pole
The flag pole in the sand in front of the clubrooms in nearly completed. A new base is to be driven into the sand and up it goes. It will be flown at all race days with the Club colours.

“Drinks on Deck”
We have had a successful series of “Drinks on the Deck” this season so far, trialling a concept of a guest speaker every second month adding a new dimension to our occasions. Time now to add the following dates in your diary and make sure you come along and enjoy the fellowship this summer.

29th September 2007
27th October 2007 Pre-season Dinner
24th November 2007
December – Christmas break
26th January 2008
23rd February 2008
29th March 2008
12th April 2008

“Drinks on the Deck” are held on the last Saturday of each month at the Pt Roadknight clubrooms starting at 6:00 pm. It is time to relax, enjoy a drink and a few nibbles with friends and if you have the inclination, stay on for a BYO bbq on the deck looking over the sea. You are welcome to bring your friends who may be with you on the weekend.

Membership Renewal
Membership renewal has slipped passed a couple from last year. Check with the Secretary if you are unsure of your status. Payment can be forwarded to The Secretary AMYC Post Office Anglesea Vic 3230.

Training
Some members are upgrading their level of support skills for club activities and have completed various courses at Royal Geelong Yacht Club - such as Instructors Course, Level II First Aid and Race Officers Course and three members are registered for the Coaches Course being conducted at Royal Brighton Yacht Club in mid October. We should see new ideas developing within the club as a result. If you are keen to learn more, come along to a Drinks on the Deck or the Pre-season dinner and ask your committee for more details.
