In June 1987 a public meeting was held in Cressy Public Hall, when a committee was formed and a list of volunteers compiled to research specific areas of Cressy's history.

The Cressy and District History Group started planning to celebrate 150 years of settlement in November 1988.

The History Group compiled a new history of Cressy 1838-1938, to be published in conjunction with Australia's Bicentennial celebrations 19 and 20 November 1988. Titled Gateway to the Plains, the book was officially launched by Stewart McArthur, MP Corangamite, to commence the celebrations, which also included an historical display set up in the old bluestone church for the weekend.

Over the years since 1987 a number of projects have been completed. These include a display cabinet at Cressy Primary School, refurbishing of the football ground gates, a photograph display of the RAAF Base mounted at the Hall, and support of the RAAF Base Reunion in August 1994.

In September 2002 the lease of the old bluestone church was approved by the Uniting Church. Renovation of the building was completed by 2005 and in April 2006 the Cressy Historical Society was officially opened.

The annual membership fee to belong to our group is $15. Please send your subscription to:
