If your body is used to having codeine (i.e. physically dependent), you will have withdrawals when you try and stop. Withdrawals can be very mild (flu-like symptoms) or quite severe - depending on a range of factors including how much you take, how often, for how long you have been taking codeine for, and your underlying health. Some people experience lingering withdrawals for months after coming off codeine and may require some ongoing medical support.
You can get advice and help from your Dr, a Drug and Alcohol Centre, or you can try and do it on your own. It is always better to get help from a health professional if you have that option.
