Connect to Ballarat (C2B)




Connecting Transport Disadvantaged individuals and groups to transport services in the Ballarat area.

The Connect to Ballarat project objectives are:

1. Make better use of existing transport resources to fit the needs of the community,

2. With the community develop innovative sustainable local transport solutions,

3. Build and maintain partnerships for better integrated transport provision, and

4. Develop sustainable networks to increase community participation in decision making.

Disadvantage:
Disadvantaged Communities are those that do not have access to appropriate publi/private transport options.

Disadvantaged Individuals are those that can not access appropriate public/private transport due to:

1. Lack of service;

2. Thier frailty, disability;

3. Financial constraints; and

4. Need support from a carer to assist with getting in/out of a car/taxi/bus/train.


Issues:
Issues that can arise from transport disadvantage are:

1. A barrier to participating in core experiences that contribute to the live-ability of the city including participating in a whole range of community services;

2. Impact on individual/community health and well-being;

3. Lack of accessable public transport;

4. Unable to access public transport due to finacial hardship; and

5. May be a barrier to individuals for opportunities to access education and training, employment and social activities.


Connect to Ballarat is funded through the Victorian Governments Transport Connections program, a cross government initiative to help communities work togeter to improve local transport.
