After Intervention (Excerpts) The Grumpy Hippopotamus John was generally a pretty happy-go-lucky hippopotamus. He lived close to a deep and cold river right in the heart of the African jungle. Over the past few months, however, John discovered that he was not able to get the same amount of food that he used to. Because he was too short, he was not able to reach the leaves on top of the trees. Gloomily, he watched the giraffes munching the leaves that he couldn't have. He also knew that he was too slow to get to the shrubs near the river. The cheetahs got there first! Gradually, John started to become very, very angry. As his hunger increased, so did his grumpiness. In desperation he resorted to eating fish.Yuck! Th fish gave him a tummy-ache. He would have to do something- but what? That night he cried himself to sleep and had a dream which gave him an idea. In the morning at nine-o'clock, John went to the Post office to use the public computer to email his cousin Bruce who live th some crocidiles on the bonfire river. he explained his predicement and asked for help. Then he sat quietly, excited for Bruce's reply. He didn't have long to wait.......... As he read the reply a huge smile spread across John face and he danced the hoky poky around the Post office. He raced home and sat in a floating chair to wait because the Bonfire river was three days away.............. |
