| Volunteer groups, particularly local sporting clubs have made a major contribution to the Buloke Biolink. We pay the clubs for their services and this has been a useful way for them to raise funds to finance their activities.
Clubs which have participated include the Charlton and Sea Lake Football Clubs, the Donald and Jeffcott Cricket Clubs and the Banyena Tennis Club. Local schools and Green Corp have also been involved and we have even had help with planting from students of Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Most of the community work has involved planting. In 2001-2002 alone community groups planted around 84,000 trees. This equated to $25,000 going directly back into the local community. At the same time people are forming a new appreciation for their unique environment. |
