Playing Ball with Clamity |
| Let me tell you about my dolphin swim that I received as a Christmas present when I went up to Coffs Harbour. When I got to Pet Porpoise Pool Marine Magic I went to book myself in at the booking desk where they were waiting for me to arrive. As I was ten minutes early for my swim my folks and I had a good look around the marine setting seeing lots of seals dolphins and birds before heading off to meet Greg who was the head trainer. He showed me all about the dolphins while we were in the water together. At the start I was a little bit nervous about getting in the water and close to the dolphins. There were two in the pool Calamity (mum) and Bella (2 year old daughter).
I was in the water in my swim float but we had to stay in the shallow end so Dad came with me to make sure I didn’t float too far from Greg. As I was in my float the dolphins were a little bit timid at the start but Calamity calmed down as she swam around me and it was a nice feeling for me. Through out the 45 minutes swim with the Dolphin, I leaned so much from Greg about Calamity and Bella as he explained all about the dolphins life like though-out the day, every day, all dolphins shed about 8 layers of skin every day of their life so that is why the skin is smooth when you touch a Dolphin. The other thing I thought most interesting was they have small eyes and ears; also they have a small hole on top which is their nose. Greg wanted me to tap the top of her snout to make Calamity sneeze through her blow hole on top which made me laugh. He showed me how to do their teeth, rub their tummy and clean them. When Calamity was comfortable with me, we had a game of throwing the ball and it was funny. After awhile I had the opportunity to look under the water to watch Calamity. Greg put the goggles on me and I went under the water but I didn’t like wearing them as water came in so they wanted me to try again but the same thing happened so I said that I wanted to try again without the goggles and I could see Calamity under the water swimming around while she was looking up at me and it was a nice feeling, just watching her swim in the water, but, the only thing I didn’t like was the water taste as it was salt water. At the end of my swim with the Dolphins, Gregg brings out a seal called Solomon who weighs about 200kg who gives me a hug and lots of kisses which made me shiver because he had bad breath. . He is much bigger than me and was on the nose. I had a swim on his back. It was a little bit scary but also a good feeling. Solomon did a whirlpool spin and as he churns up the water it feels like a washing machine. Greg did the same as when I met Calamity with explained all about seal with feeling Solomon fish with me helping him to get Solomon use to me but he was more relax with me from the start then Calamity was. Before Solomon left me, he kiss me again which was ok but you aren’t missing out on anything if you don’t get kissed. While Greg was taking Solomon back to his pool I had the opportunity to swim on my own with the dolphins before I had to get out of the pool. I had a shower next to the pool to get the salt water off. In all I had a ball and I will never forget the experience. By Brett Reynolds |
