BCWC -- Walk Report - Morwell National Park

Morwell National Park
(Wendy Philbey)

DATE: Sunday 24 September
LEADER: Michael Spisto

We met at the Hazelwood shopping centre and drove the short distance to the beautiful Morwell National Park.
After a scrumptious morning tea very generously supplied by Michael and Christine we set off to enjoy the Forest Gully nature walk. Graham very kindly volunteered to mind the vehicles !!! We ambled along noting the wonderful flora particularly the prolific vines, Clematis and Pandorea, and many other low growing wildflowers.

Photographs were taken of the huge Mountain Grey Gum, this forest area has Grey and Blue Gums forming a canopy, the next layer are medium growing trees and then the lower growing plants, ferns etc..The old quarry was explored as was the black stump which is a relic of the 1939 bush fires. As we headed back to the picnic area, the weather became very unkind to us. We sat in the small shelter for lunch and the wind, hail, rain and cold made the decision for us to abandon the afternoon walk and wrap ourselves in the cosiness pf our cars.

Thank you Michael.
