Walhalla Rail Trail
(Wendy Philbey) DATE: Wednesday 16 August LEADER: Wil Streckfuss Walhalla is a popular walking spot, and once again we assembled at Tyers car park for a great day out, with the weather cool and enticing. After a car shuffle to Knot's Siding, and morning tea, we headed off along the rail Trail enjoying the variety of vegetation, rainforest and wonderful Mountain Ash trees. The Chinese tunnel on Horseshoe Bend was very interesting, and well worth the climb in and out. The Thomson River was so pristine and we spent time scouting around the old mine shafts. We reached the Walhalla train station, the steam train pulled in as we arrived there. It is always interesting to stand and watch; the rail volunteers do a wonderful job. We drove into Walhalla for lunch in the park, which we shared with dozens of schoolchildren and then it was back to our vehicles. Some keen members went off to Cooper's Creek as an additional option. It was a lovely day out, and thank you to Wil. Ben Cruachan Walking Club - Walk Reports |
