Due to the many frustrations of working from home in a studio based business, I have found the need to develop some way of communicating with other local artists in Knox.
I am also disappointed with the lack of availability of quality Art Galleries or shops that I can display my work in Knox. I find I have to go elsewhere to sell and get recognition. I also find that around the country, there are many, so called Galleries selling overseas, or mass produced work and passing it off as handmade, and even, made in Australia Craft!!!! How can they call themselves ART Galleries? What makes a gallery artistic?? What makes a community appreciate Art and the Artists that create it?? Why is craft a dirty word? What makes people think of crocheted knee rugs and pot holders when we mention the word CRAFT.....there is a lot of craft in art....and this is probably why I called the Community 'Artisans in Knox' and not Art and Craft in Knox!! I am hoping that this Community Webpage will generate interest in the Artisans work in the community. Develop a sense of worth of buying handmade, originally designed pieces from local Artists. Make local people aware of artisans that work and live in Knox. Promote the value of learning handmade skills and not allow these skills to disappear in this world of computers and machine handmade crafts and art. So if you are a ceramicist, painter, goldsmith, silversmith, lacemaker, papermaker, glassblower, beadmaker, leatherworker, woodworker, quilter, sculptor, embroiderer, printmaker, weaver or anything else that you consider to be of artistic merit.....please join this community....it is free!!
