It is with great sadness that we share the news that radical feminist warrior Andrea Dworkin has passed away. She died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Washington DC, on April 9, 2005 at the age of 58. It is an enormous loss to our community and to our movement.
Andrea Dworkin was a revolutionary who spoke the truth of women's lives in her writing, speaking, and grassroots activism. Through her unapologetic radical feminist analysis and uncompromising vision, she opened up to women a feminism that was radical, militant, and unwavering. She lived her message, devoting her life for over three decades to helping women and girls survive and resist the assaults of patriarchy. Her dedication to our struggle, which in her work always kept at center the experiences and realities of those of us most harmed by systems of male violence and exploitation, carried with it the belief that we each could be revolutionary agents in changing our lives and the world.
Andrea gave life and courage to so many of us who struggled as radical feminists in a world hostile to our work, visions, and survival. There aren't enough words to express our gratitude. For the integrity that she embodied, for her absolute courage, humbleness, and brilliance, and above all for her unwavering commitment to women's freedom, we continue on in the resistance she inspired.
Andrea, may you rest in peace.
You are deeply missed and will always be honored and cherished.
