Changes to Group Creation 7 October 2005
Online groups created at this site must be community based groups. Community based groups include special interest groups such as sporting clubs or hobby groups, not-for-profit organisations, local government entities, state government agencies and peak bodies. When creating a group, you will now be asked what type of community based group it is, and to state how the creation of the online group will benefit your members. See also: Who may use mc²

New photos in the Photo Gallery Slide Show 23 August 2005
There are new photos in the Photo Gallery Slide Show, including the VICSEG Staff photo and the cake made for the MADEC launch. Both VICSEG and MADEC are Round 4 Project Partners.
New Template for Webpages 17 August 2005
We have added new templates to the Webpage Generator. There are now seven choices of layout to choose from. Template 6 allows links to be displayed at the top of the page. Template 7 has images at the top and everything centered. The layout of Template 2 has been enhanced, too. All templates now feature a link to your index page, called "HOME". The Webpage Generator can create both Group Webpages and personal pages [My Webpage]
Funding for Community Groups - Apply Now! 11 August 2005
The Victorian Government invites applications from community organisations for funding to establish online groups at mc². In this funding round, groups that focus on senior Victorians, including seniors from non-English speaking backgrounds, recent migrants, unemployed Victorians, those outside the education system and workforce and people with a disability are encouraged to apply. Two levels of funding are available under the program: Level 2 ($10,000) and Level 3 ($30,000). Having Problems with Chat? 9 August 2005
The use of mc² Chat requires your computer to be Java-enabled. Even if your browser appears to be Java enabled, you may still experience difficulties if you do not have the latest version installed. More on mc² chat and Java

SPAM emails and Viruses 17 May 2005
There are a large number of SPAM emails circulating at the moment warning customers that their email account has been blocked or cancelled for security reasons. Many of these emails appear to come from legitimate addresses including Vicnet addresses but they are not from Vicnet. Any email from Vicnet concerning customer accounts would contain full Vicnet contact details. Vicnet email addresses also do not contain capital letters. The emails may also have an attached file. Do not open attachments or attempt to read them, as the file contains a virus. mc² strongly advise that everyone installs, runs and frequently updates a virus checking program on their own computer. You must also update this several times a week, to effectively protect you from the latest threats. See more on viruses.

Minister Announces Second Wave Boost for Online Communities 14 April 2005
Communities around Victoria have been given a $500,000 boost to get connected, with more grants announced. Marsha Thomson said 22 peak bodies and community groups would share the funding - the fourth round of grants under the program. Each group has been given between $10,000 and $30,000, over two years, for their projects. More than 300 new online groups will be established under this funding round. Child Pornography 5 April 2005
Note that whilst Internet Content Hosts (ICHs) (such as Vicnet) are not required to actively review, monitor or classify the content hosted on their service, due to recent changes in the law, they now have an obligation to report material they have reasonable grounds to believe is child pornography or child abuse material to the Australian Federal Police (AFP) - see Attorney-General's Department.
Copyright and the use of logos 29 March 2005
All members of mc² are bound and protected by the Code of Conduct, the wording of which has recently been amended re the use of logos thus:
"...you must have legitimate authority to use or associate an organisations name and/or logo with your online activity... Be aware that most organisations will not allow use of their images or logo without specific permission. "

Update to Code of Conduct 22 February 2005
All members of mc² are bound and protected by the Code of Conduct, the wording of which has recently been amended re Security / Viruses thus:
"...be aware that not all viruses can be detected and cleaned. There is a risk involved whenever you access the Internet, or download email and attachments to your computer, or send email attachments to others, and that, as stated in the Liability section, neither mc² nor Vicnet are responsible for any damages caused by your decision to do so."

Community Groups Reminded To Apply For ICT Funding 27 January 2005
Community groups are being urged to apply for Government funding to help more Victorians get online. Grants for the fourth round of My Connected Community were announced in December last year as part of a $9 million commitment to ICT community programs.
