Monitoring your Members

The Members section lists the names & email addresses of everyone who has joined your community so you can send them individual email messages. It also allows the owner/moderators to Remove a member who has consistently breached the Code of Conduct. The owner can also use the Members section to make one or members a moderator (someone who has all the responsibilities & rights outlined on this page), and identify which members are subscribed to your Forum, Alerts & and Mailing List.

Tip:  Check for & approve new membership requests on a regular basis

How to approve new membership requests

If, when creating your community, you selected that new members go through an approval stage, you'll be sent an email message every time someone wants to join. As the owner of such a community, you must remember to check your email on a daily basis for new membership requests. Until you have approved a new member, they remain pending, and unable to join the group.

To check for & approve new membership requests:

  1. access your email account
  2. open the relevant email message eg. with the Subject: "** New mc2 member needs your approval"
  3. click on the link to mc2: http://mc2.vicnet.net.au
  4. login to mc2 & access your community
  5. click on Members (found down the left side of your group)
  6. click on Approve (found to the far right of the member's name)
  7. click on "YES - Approved" to let them into the group
  8. or click on "NO - Not Approved" to reject their application to join the group

Tip:  to find out more about a new member before approving them, or to explain why you can't approve their membership, click on their email address, then write & then send them a message

or email mc2@vicnet.net.au

Tips:
  • This standard system message doesn't explain the reason for banning them. So, before banning a member, send them an email message explaining why (eg. warning them about their breaches of the Code of Conduct).

  • If someone breaks the Code of Conduct in multiple groups, contact the Vicnet Help Desk and we may suspend their mc2 account, which means they won't be able to login or use mc2 services at all. More about banning Members
