All members are bound and protected by the Code of Conduct and Privacy Policy. Group Owners and Moderators should ensure that they, and their group members, are aware of the latest Code of Conduct, and that everyone observes it at all times. The Code of Conduct states that:
In addition, you may wish to develop your own Code of Conduct, specific to your groups needs. This could outline what is deemed approprite &/or inapproprite behaviour for your group, and your policy for dealing with breaches - do they get a warning first, or will they just be removed from the group? A clear, universal policy avoids people feeling victimised if they are reprimanded - it's not personal, it's standard policy!
The Code of Conduct also protects Owners and Moderators from abuse by members: Harassment or abuse, whether physical, verbal or written of other users or members, will result in the cancellation of mc2 services.
If a member posts an inapproprite entry, behaves badly, or uploads a file you think they shouldn't, owners/moderators can easily delete it or remove the member from the group without warning. It makes sense, however, to explain to the miscreant why you had to do this, and exactly how you think they've broken the Code of Conduct. If you don't tell them why, they may just offend again...
If a member does not repond to warnings and repeatedly breaks the Code of Conduct, especially if they do this in several groups, contact the Vicnet Help Desk and we will suspend their mc2 account, which prevents them from logging in to mc2 at all, in any group. This is obviously an extreme measure, but be aware that mc2 staff will do all we can to support the work of owners/moderators to keep mc2 as a safe, secure environment for people to share their experiences and engage with others.
