The My Connected Community program is a key part of the Bracks Government's commitment to ensuring that all Victorians are able to enjoy the benefits of technology.
In working to meet this commitment, we've developed a range of programs that aim to provide Victorians - especially the hardest to reach - with access to the Internet, the skills to use it and a good reason to go online.
We've done the first two very well, providing Internet training to more than 75,000 Victorians and providing free or affordable Internet access at more than 9,400 public access points across the State.
Just as importantly through My Connected Community, we're also giving Victorians a reason to go online.
In short, My Connected Community aims to make the Internet more relevant and more useful to more Victorians and thanks to the hundreds of My Connected Community members, that's exactly what we've done.
Already close to 1,000 community groups have established an online presence through the program. And we expect this to grow to more than 1,500 by 30 June 2003 - a wonderful achievement.
An achievement only made possible through the enthusiasm and support of the groups themselves, who are growing their membership and adding value to their members' lives by being online.
Whether it's seeking guidance on how to cope with a premature baby or linking up with a fellow sports enthusiast, My Connected Community is helping people all over Victoria keep in touch and up to date.
On behalf of the Bracks Government, I would like to congratulate you on your tremendous efforts in making My Connected Community a success and wish all groups well for the future.
