RAM - Random Access Memory
RAM is memory found in computers and other devices, such as printers. What is in RAM is whatever the computer is "thinking about" at any given time. The greater the RAM, the better the computers performance. I.e. more programs or tasks can be run simultaneously, without delays or crashing. Unlike the hard drive contents, RAM is volatile, i.e. lost when the power is turned off.

Reboot
Booting a computer means starting it up, so rebooting is restarting it. A reboot may be required if the operating system becomes unstable, or crashes. Rebooting may also be required to complete the installation of a new program, so that the Registry can be written to, to reflect the changes.

Refresh / Reload
The browser uses a cache to temporarily store webpages it has downloaded on your computer. This enables pages to load faster if they are requested a second time. If an old page is displayed, you can over-ride the locally cached page by using "Refresh" in your browser, or press the F5 function key. If it doesn't refresh, try Ctrl and F5, which will force the browser to go to the Internet to download the latest page. If you are still viewing old, cached pages, you can delete them in Internet Explorer 7 by selecting Tools / Delete Browsing History, then under Temporary Internet Files click Delete Files. See also Proxy.

Registry (Windows Registry)
A database used by the Windows operating system to store system configuration information. Most Windows applications write data to the Registry, at least during installation. Installing programs often requires a reboot (restarting the computer), as the registry is in use and must be written to, to reflect the changes.

Robot  (bot)
A program that runs automatically without human intervention, e.g. Search Engines commonly use a spider bot to scour the Web for Websites. See also: The Web Robots Pages

Router
A piece of hardware or software that connects two or more networks. A router functions as a sorter and interpreter as it looks at addresses and passes bits of information to their proper destinations. Software routers are sometimes referred to as gateways.

RSS (Rich Site Summary, or Really Simple Syndication)
Way of distributing news headlines and other content on the Web. Instead of the user browsing websites for information of interest, the information is sent directly to the user.
