Invisible Web / Deep Web
The vast repository of information that search engines and directories don't have direct access to, like databases. Unlike pages on the visible Web (that is, the Web that you can access from search engines and directories), information in databases is generally inaccessible to the software spiders and crawlers that create search engine indexes. E.g. University library sites that require passwords to access their information will not be included in search engine results, as well as script-based pages that are not easily read by search engine spiders. Full text articles and Journals may also be on the Web, but unavailable without subscription.

Some places to search the Invisible Web:

IP Address
A unique number assigned to all computers that are connected to the Internet. E.g.the domain name vicnet.net.au is equivalent to the IP address 203.10.72.1. See also Domain Name and DNS

IRC
IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is a virtual meeting place where people from all over the world can meet and chat online. There are thousands of IRC channels, or chat rooms. To use IRC you need a small program like mIRC, a shareware IRC client for Windows.
