Firefox
Firefox is a Web Browser distributed by Mozilla.org, as an alternative to Microsoft Internet Explorer. It can block popup windows, provide tabbed browsing and block malicious spyware. See Firefox Website
Firewall
A "firewall" is a system designed to protect a computer or a computer network from attacks, and to defend against attempts at unauthorised access.
Firewalls can be implemented in both hardware and software, or a combination of both. Firewalls are frequently used to prevent unauthorized Internet users from accessing private networks connected to the Internet, especially intranets. All messages entering or leaving the intranet pass through the firewall, which examines each message and blocks those that do not meet the specified security criteria.
Floppy Disk
A magnetic storage disk. It is called floppy because the early 5 ¼" ones "flopped" if you waved them (though the later 3½" versions are stiff). Unlike most hard disks, floppy disks (often called floppies or diskettes) are portable, because you can remove them from a disk drive. Due to their limited storage capacity (1.4 Mb), they have now been superceeded by superior CD & DVD file storage capacity. Though not much larger physically, a DVD can store at least 3,000 times more data than a floppy.
Forums (also known as Newsgroups or Bulletin Boards)
A way of having a discussion about a particular topic over the Internet; you can post (write) messages, read other people's postings or just lurk (read but not participate). Every mc² group has a Forum. Messages are recorded on the website as well as sent by email. See also mc² features: Forum
FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
An Internet service (protocol) that allows you to connect to a remote computer & copy files from one computer to the other, i.e. upload and download files. An example of using FTP would be updating your Website, by using FTP to upload HTML files from your computer, to your webspace on a remote server.
