Shared Files
This is an area where you can share files with other members. Any computer files can be
uploaded, so you can share Word or text documents, spreadsheets, minutes, newsletters, sound files, etc. For example, if you have an online chat organised, you could make supporting documents available in the Shared Files section in advance, so people can read about the topic or speaker before the chat. Once you have successfully uploaded a file, an email goes out to all those on the Alerts list [see
My Communities]. This informs members that a new file is available, and also provides a direct link to it from the email.
Rules for File Names:
- Do not use S P A C E S in filenames: use_underscores_instead
- Keep File Names short
- Only use letters and numbers: a-z and 0-9
- Do NOT use "special" characters: $ ' " * % / & # @ ! etc.
- If necessary, rename files before uploading
To avoid potentially spreading viruses, executable files [.exe] are not permitted. You should also avoid uploading large files that will take other modem users forever to download! Be sure not to breach copyright by uploading images etc. that belong to others - see the Code of Conduct.
