| RE:March 09 dung beetle survey | From: Belinda Pearce
Date: 12/05/2009 | Hi Bertram and fellow dung beetle enthusiasts
Thanks for your posts on DB activity in March and over summer.
Good to read that you have found some alexis in your area, and it is also pleasing to see taurus and fulvus still about in reasonable numbers in March.
As part of the "Do it with Dung - from the Mountains to the Murray" Project we have volunteers from across the North East and Corowa shire (NSW) monitoring dung beetle activity on a fortnightly basis.
I have attached a link (below) to the project website. I have included some of the monitoring results in the project newsletter which can be downloaded from the site. There will be a full report on findings at the end of the project (Nov 2009).
Bubas bison has become active across many parts of the region in the past month. The level of activity has been quite varied.
All very interesting.
We will be hosting some parasite management workshops in the upcoming weeks at various locations (Yackandandah 21/5, Mohyu 28/5, Tallangatta 4/6). The guest speaker is Dr Grant Richards. Grant will speak on worm lifecycles, worm counts and parasite management strategies. This is a free workshop open to anyone who would like to learn more about worm lifecylces and faecel egg counts.
Details of these events are listed on the project webpage. (Click on Events).
Thanks again for posting your findings,
Belinda
