Summer beetle activity

On Friday 7th November, we had 37mm of rain at Kergunyah (NE Victoria). About one week later the summer dung beetles, taurus and fulvus were noticed in dung pads (up to 100 taurus and 25 fulvus in a single dung pad). Yesterday I also trapped an alexis beetle which was a nice find.

It's good to see our summer friends back. At Lucyvale, a late working bison has been found in addition to several binodis beetles.

We have also noticed an increase in fly numbers - which seems to vary a bit with some colder nights. It would be great if the beetles could get the jump on the bush flies early in the season.

Now is a good time to monitor beetle activity. You can find practical information on how to monitor at the attached link

What's happening in you area?
